This, the second installment of our exam preparation series, focuses on taking your exams effectively. We sat down with Mr. McClean to get the best tips for what to expect and what to do the day of your exams. Follow these recommendations to get the best scores possible while limiting your stress levels.

Here we are again, exams are coming up fast in all your classes and you start to feel overwhelmed with everything you have to do to prepare. This is totally normal. Even if you have been in school for a long time and do this every year, it can still be challenging to figure out how to prioritise your time, which subjects to tackle first and when to start studying. We are here to help you through this process as best we can. Both the teaching staff and the boarding staff know this is a stressful time of year. In order to get you started, we have put together a series of two blogs to give you some tips for exam preparation. This first blog will focus on early preparation. What, you may ask, is a beastie hotel? This spring, teacher Kennedy, the Maths Co-ordinator, and Mrs. Brown, dreamt up an interdisciplinary project to engage the boarding school students outside the classroom. It was a joint environmental, PHSE, geography, and maths project to build hotels to attract and house various kinds of insects.

Families send their children to summer boarding school abroad for a wide variety of reasons, most of which we have written about on this blog. Sometimes it is to give them the opportunity to experience another country and culture. Sometimes it is with the hope that they will make connections and friends from all over the world. Sometimes it is to improve their language abilities, such as English or French at the Brillantmont Summer Course. Sometimes it’s simply to give their child a memorable, fun summer in a secure location like Switzerland.

When my mother sat me down to tell me that she had enrolled me in a summer course in Switzerland I was really nervous. Isn’t that far away? How will I ever make friends there? I wanted to stay with my friends here at home. I knew that my parents were considering boarding school once I was a bit older. They said that this was a chance for me to see what it would be like to be away. It wasn’t easy to get used to the idea of leaving my family and friends, even if it was just for a couple of weeks.

Ski Week is a favorite annual tradition at Brillantmont International School. Every year, students take a whole week out of their term to travel into the breathtaking Swiss Alps, stay at a beautiful hotel, and ski or snowboard all week! Whether you are a beginner or advanced skier, this week will further develop your skills in the snow and is guaranteed to be packed with fun. This year’s trip was another great success. The students had a blast on the mountain and they are already talking about going back again next year. Below are some comments on the experience from two students, one from Mexico and one from Brazil.

Are you once again on the search for a summer school for your child? This is an important decision to make, especially if your child has never been away from home before. Summer school abroad can also be a great way to introduce them to the boarding school life. This short guide on finding the best place for your kid was helpful to parents last year at this time.

Last month we had a wonderful alumni gathering in Miami, Florida where a number of students who graduated in various decades reconnected with one another and reminisced about their time at boarding school in Switzerland. This event highlighted how our graduates originate from all over the globe and end up engaged in a wide variety of careers on every continent.

Every year a group of hard working Brillantmont boarding students heads to a Model United Nations conference to test their skills in debate and public presentation. This year, our group attended the conference in the Hague. After experiencing this one-of-a-kind challenge, three students came back to Brillantmont and shared with us how this experience influenced them. The following are some highlights from these conversations.

We are now into another term at our Swiss boarding school and this means that students are preparing for all of the examinations ahead of them. At Brillantmont International School, our students can choose to take A levels, the SATs, IGCSE, IELTS and/or European language exams. On top of this, just like every school around the world, we have mid-term exams coming up soon. Each and every one of these takes a lot of preparation, guidance, and support to successfully complete.
