In our Grade 8 coding classes, students have been learning to programme in Python, currently the most widely used programming language in the world. Python is a fantastic language to learn at Brillantmont, providing students with a strong foundation for future study in higher education and beyond. Because of our small class sizes and personalised learning environment, each student is gaining confidence as they work through increasingly complex tasks.

As you may already be aware, some of our Grade 8 and 9 pupils have been working extremely hard this year on building robots and creating games. We are very proud to unveil the results of our coding and programming classes for the first time.
In collaboration with the TechSpark Academy, our students have been developing code that can power intelligent robotic life, and building snake-based games that can eat apples and navigate obstacles! Not only has this been a fun and highly engaging class, but the students have learned valuable skills which could prove very useful in their future careers.

As part of our ongoing robotics and programming course, Brillantmont’s Grade 8 students recently attended the UN's World Summit on the Information Society, held in the ITU building in Place de Nations. Here, our students were able to apply knowledge recently acquired in class, as they learned all about the design and construction of robotic, prosthetic hands.
In previous blogs, we’ve shared with your our excitement at the introduction of coding and robotics classes into our 8th and 9th Grade curricula.
Since September, our Grade 8 students have been putting together electronic components that are gradually turning into robots. Robotics and programming courses are part of Brillantmont International School core curriculum to develop connections between science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics - the STEAM fields.
Read MoreSeptember 2018 saw the launch of our new coding classes in our mathematics and technology department. In partnership with TechSpark Academy and EPFL, all of our grade 8 and 9 students are now learning computer programming as part of their core Brillantmont curriculum. These courses have been met with great enthusiasm by our students. Brillantmont is the only school in Switzerland to make such a course a compulsory part of the learning programme. Isn’t that a fantastic opportunity?

It's in full swing and the students continue to be engaged in interesting and exciting new ways of connecting maths to the world around us. All this week students at Brillantmont are improving their geometry skills and getting to grips with abstract concepts. Every year our mathematics department joins forces with a different department and asks students to consider the links between subjects. This year we are connecting the dots between mathematics and art. Students have been learning about geometry and creating designs using abstract compositions and impossible shapes.

In the Maths Department, some classes are signed up to the online iMaths and my iMaths platform. Through a variety of activities, games and quizzes, students can extend and reinforce their maths skills, consolidating their in-class knowledge. Their teachers can even set and mark homework through it. Students receive clearly explained feedback on their results, helping them and the teacher evaluate areas of strength and areas which need further work.
