A day in the life of a Summer Course student

Written by Sarah Frei | 18-Mar-2013 08:50:00

Summer is fast approaching, and for Brillantmont International School that means a new intake of Summer Course students eager to learn a new language while experiencing the very best of Swiss life. What’s in store for our lucky participants? Let’s take a look at a typical day in the life of a Summer Course student...

MORNING | Breakfast and learning

For the students of Brillantmont International School’s Summer Course, the day begins with a healthy, nutritious and delicious fresh breakfast, which also helps them to stay bright and alert for the rest of the day.

On weekdays, students then head to their French or English language classes which begin at 9am. The first session focuses on grammar and language structure, followed by a 15-minute break.

The second language session devotes time to the practical application of these skills, through communication and practice of a student’s oral abilities. These sessions often include trips out into the wider community of Lausanne so students can put their skills to use in a variety of real-life situations.

AFTERNOON | Sports and excursions

After lunch, most weekday afternoons see students participating in a number of different sporting activities. Many of these are held on site – such as soccer, table tennis, basketball – putting good use to the new multipurpose Françoise Frei-Huguenin Sports and Cultural Centre.

We also take advantage of Lausanne to enjoy cycling in the near by woods, water skiing, wind-surfing and paddle on the lake.

Wednesday is the only exception to the weekday afternoon schedule, when students may head out for a whole class excursion. Past trips, with activity workshops have  included Vevey Photo Museum, the Vallorbe Caves, Gruyere Cheese Factory, Alimentarium Food Museum and Lausanne Fire Station.

EVENING | Extra study, free time and disco!

After dinner, all our summer programme students remain actively involved in life at Brillantmont. Some evenings, there may be a short study period, though many evenings are given over to activities such as cinema trips, bingo evenings, sports tournaments, bowling, and so on.

A highlight of the Summer Course is our own hugely popular BBQ on Wednesday evenings and the Brillantmont disco on Fridays.

WEEKENDS | Educational trips and full-day excursions

Weekends are equally action-packed with day trips to Berne or Geneva for those who are not leaving.

Sunday sees a fabulous full-day excursion to one of several superb leisure activities, such as trips to local water parks, dirt bike riding, adventure parks, Vallorbe Fortress and rock climbing at the Arolla Glacier.

A day in the life of a student on our Summer Course programme offers the perfect mix of education and enjoyment, which is why our students keep coming back to Brillantmont for more!
