EPFL is one of Europe’s most diverse technical universities, both for its mix of cultures – staff and students hail from more than 120 nations – and for the teaching on offer. The number of foreign students has grown near-exponentially in the past two decades, going from 700 in the 1980s to more than 3,500 today, studying architecture, the sciences, mathematics and engineering. The University of Lausanne has more than 12,000 students and 2,300 researchers that both work and study together. The university says it encourages close cooperation between students, professors and teaching staff, which has helped it to attract more undergraduates each year. Courses on offer include bachelors and masters degrees and doctorates in areas relating to theology, law, the arts, social and political science, business and economics, geosciences, biology and medicine.
